 Rules

A:  There aren't really that many, folks.  Chief among them is common sense really.  Do NOT write another player's character OUT OF CHARACTER.  That's why we have BIO Pages on the site, to let you as the writer know how another character would react under a given set of circumstances.  That's the biggie, everything else is downhill from here.  I can't stand someone doing that to my character any more than anyone else can.  I won't tolerate it and the offender will only be warned once.

B:  NO spamming of the RPG's mail list.  There won't be a warning on this one.  If people wanted to be spammed, they'd have joined a 'group' mailing list to begin with.

C:  ALL posts are to be sent to the central mailbox for the RPG, unless a player wishes to do do a Joint Post with another player.  If this is the case, please contact the GM and it will be forwarded to the respective player or I will obtain permission from that player for you to have his or her e-mail address.  Common courtesy is the watchword.

D:  ALL posts are subject to editing for the following reasons, mainly continuity and content.  A brief explanation:  If player one's post is received first in the mailbox and then player two sends a post in that doesn't quite jibe with the first post, it will be edited to follow that first post.  That's how I've always done it, folks.  First post in is the first post out.  Fair is fair.

E:  This RPG is voluntarily rated as "R".  Therefore, you MUST be at least sixteen years of age to join us.  Sorry to have to do this, but some parents would probably frown on their children reading 'swear words' and such.  Just a precaution.

Promotions

A:  Promotions will be determined by each platform's separate commanding officer, the GM will not make this determination.  As I hope we will be adding more SG Teams in the near future, I leave this bit of diplomacy up to that team's CO. The only stipulation that I will impose is that posting frequency will have some bearing on this.

Posting

A:  Posting is rather simple.  I'll explain.  This 'game' isn't really a game at all.  It's more like a collaborative writing project than anything else, but this is the term that's been given to these sort of PBeM RPGs on the web and it's stuck.  So be it.  In truth, this is an open ended, human moderated collaborative writing platform.  One player will write a 'post' and send it in to the GM.  The GM will review it for spelling and grammar and then send it out to the rest of that player's SG Team.  Then, another player from that Team will write a post to follow the post that he or she has received in their e-mail.  And on and on it goes...just like that, we have a never ending story that will continue for as long as we see fit.  This doesn't mean that we can't do different story lines and such, to the contrary, the more adventures we have...the better.  But we must ensure that we finish one storyline before starting another, unless this is a sub-plot of the current SG Team mission, then this is acceptable.

B:  Posting Format is simple as well.  The header of your post itself, should look something like this:

Date:  30 October 2002    The date gives everyone an idea as to when your post occurs

Title:  "The Beginning"    ALL posts must have a title...remember...these are like mini-novels

Writer:  Colonel Jack O'Neill    Your character's name and rank...or civilian GS status

Scene:  Stargate SGC    What setting your post takes place at, i.e.:  SGC;  Planet Chulak

Time:  Concurrent; Following "Prologue"    When your post takes place during a mission

The body of the post should be written much as you would see a novel or short story written.  The format most often used is called 'third-person, omniscient', i.e.:  Colonel O'Neill walked quietly through the corridors of the underground SGC facility, not knowing really just where he was going.  He stopped at the entrance to the gate room and listened.  Coming from behind the heavy door that they all liked to think kept threats to the Earth and Human kind at bay, he heard a rumbling sound...

This isn't the only acceptable format though.  'First person, narrative' is popular as well and IF you can do it well, then by all means, go for it.  I.E.:  Something was bothering me as I made my way through the corridors of the SGC facility, I just couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was at that moment.  It occurred to me that nothing was really stopping the Go'auld from coming here and wiping us all out.  Well, except for the fear of reprisals from the Asguard or any number of other races that we'd made first contact with over the years...

These are just two examples of the way posts should be written.  'Script'-like posts are often confusing and not allowed.  If we wanted to read a script, we'd go to the show's site and read the scripts from whatever season we were interested in, right?  Right.

Whoever wants to continue from here can go ahead and do so.  I shy away from using what are known as <tag lines> for one simple reason.  It restricts other players from writing a continuation to that post, if they should so desire.  The way I see it, if you're serious about writing for this RPG, you'll know when someone else is referring to your character and respond accordingly.

The footer of the post is what let's everyone know, ok, this is the end of my post.  It should look something like this:

Colonel Jack O'Neill      Again, your character's name and rank...or civilian GS status

Commanding Officer    Your character's position, i.e.:  Commanding Officer; Medic

SG - 1                             Your character's current assignment, i.e.:  SG - 1; SG - 2 and so on

Stargate:  Unbound      The overall group affiliation, as demonstrated with the example

That's the basic example of posting format.  I hope it helps.  Should you have any questions concerning this, please feel free to contact myself or the commanding officer of your SG Team for help.

Special Note #2:  The 'Subject' line of your e-mail sending a post in to it's respective SG Team mailbox, SHOULD have the title of the post in it.

C:  Posting frequency is fairly straight forward.  AT LEAST once every seven days, your CO will expect a post from you, more than that would be welcome as well.  If, after seven days you have not posted, your character will be placed on "NPC" status and an email will be sent to you explaining this action.  Seven days after that, if you still have not posted, you will be written out of the game.  However, the Game Manager does reserve the right to expel ANY member should they be deemed a nuisance or trouble making element to the game.  This is drastic and will only be used as a last resort.
